Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and light, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly blend this dry mix into the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Baking
- Scoop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, leaving enough space between them for spreading.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, watching for the edges to turn golden while the centers remain slightly soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
Notes
Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes can enhance flavors and improve texture. For a deeper flavor, experiment by adding a pinch of sea salt on top before baking. These cookies stay fresh for days and can be frozen for up to three months.
