Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large apples Look for varieties like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional) Can be reduced or omitted for lower sugar intake.
  • 1 tablespoon juice of lemon Helps prevent browning of apple slices.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and allow it to warm up.
  2. Core the apples and slice them thinly into even pieces, about 1/8-inch thick.
  3. In a bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar (if using) until well mixed.
  4. Toss the apple slices in lemon juice to prevent browning, then lightly coat them with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the apple slices in a single layer, making sure they don’t overlap.
Baking
  1. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 2-3 hours.
  2. Check occasionally and flip the slices halfway through, until they are crispy and slightly golden.
Cool and Store
  1. Once out of the oven, allow the apple chips to cool on the baking sheet before transferring them to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

Ensure the apple slices are consistent in thickness for even baking. Keep an eye on the chips towards the end of the baking time; they can turn from crisp to burnt quickly. Experiment with different spices like nutmeg or allspice for a unique flavor twist.
