Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free blend.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Can be reduced for lower-sugar version.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Use for customizable sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Can swap with dark chocolate or peanut butter chips.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • to taste sea salt for sprinkling Enhances flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  6. Spread the oatmeal mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan, pressing it down lightly to ensure it holds together while baking.
  7. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top to enhance the flavors.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. The top should look firm and slightly puffy.
  2. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Let them cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Tips: Don’t overmix the batter; allow bars to cool fully for easier cutting. Customize with nuts or dried fruit for added flavor.
