  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 1 tablespoon butter for greasing the baking dish
  • to taste salt add lightly before baking

Garnish (optional)
  • to taste chives or parsley for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Position a rack in the center.
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter, rubbing it over the bottom and sides.
  3. Pour heavy cream into the dish and make four shallow wells with a spoon.
Baking
  1. Crack one egg into each well and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Sprinkle grated cheese evenly over the eggs.
  3. Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Start checking at 15 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven and let sit for 1 minute before serving.
  5. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.

Notes

For very runny yolks, check closely at 14-15 minutes. Avoid overbaking to prevent dry yolks. Store in the fridge for up to 2 days; reheat gently.
